                                               Maitama, Abuja  22nd February, 2017

The President of Social Safety Net Foundation Mr Olalekan Babalola today spoke strongly against Gender Based Violence  at a Workshop hosted by Light – Up Africa Development Initiative  at Sommerset Hotel Maitama Abuja.
In his contributions he reiterated that Gender Based Violence in Nigeria is on the increase and must be addressed frontally. Mr Olalakan emphasized the need to adopt a multifaceted approach to curbing violence against women as legislation has proven to be inadequate as observed from experiences in Mexico and other counties in Latin America.   He stated the need for Faith Based Organizations, Civil Society Organizations and Academics to be constantly involved in advocacy, sensitization and counseling for the public and victims of Gender Based Violence.
Relevant Stakeholders and Policy makers at the event emphasized the need for shelters for victims of violence and abuse. They stated the need for mothers to wake up to their roles and raise their children rightly.
