SOCIAL SAFETY NET FOUNDATION TOURS 10 STATES TO PHYSICALLY ASSESS THE STATUS OF VULNERABLE PEOPLE 


The last 15 days has been full of activities  for the President of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Mr Olalekan Babalola. In all he has visited  10 states namely Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Gombe, Taraba, Adamawa, FCT,  Imo, Ogun, Ekiti States. During his tour the President met with Traditional Rulers, Policy Makers, Development Partners, Health Personnel and vulnerable people in the states.

The objective of the tour was to physically assess the state of Internally Displaced Persons, Almajiris, homeless people and the unemployed across the states. He also used the opportunity to conduct some training on Aquaculture for some unemployed youths and women. During the tour he met with health officials to conduct Poverty assessment surveys by interacting with relevant stakeholders. Mr Babalola also visited the state offices of the Organisation in the twelve states and conducted capacity building workshops for the state officials.

The organization intends expand its social protection initiatives across all 36 states of the federation and FCT. This will involve distribution of relief materials such as food clothes and mobile homes. It also intend to train and empower you women and youths in Agribusiness and Vocational skills to enhance their livelihood and lift them from poverty.

SOCIAL SAFETY NET FOUNDATION EMPOWERS 50 VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN ABUJA

Social Safety Net Foundation a Non Governmental Organization had its Rural Relief and Empowerment Programme (R-REP) on Saturday 26th February, 2017. The President of the organization MrOlalekanBabalola stated that the initiative was designed to provide succor to the poorest of the poor in the society, he stated that the programme was in line with the organization’s main objective which  is to provide social protection to vulnerable people in Nigeria.
The programme which was held at a slum located close to NEPA Junction, Apo Abuja  came as a huge relief to about  50 women, children and youths. About one thousand clothes were distributed along with 50 bags of rice and 48 cartons of indomie noodles. The residents who were interviewed expressed their delight at the programme. They thanked the organization and asked for more of such as the recession had terribly affected their livelihoods. Most of the beneficiaries who cooked for construction workers in the vicinity  and serve as casual workers on construction sites complained bitterly of low patronage as construction work had grinded to a halt on most of the sites they services.

The women were trained on Agribusiness, and other subjects such as Exclusive Breastfeeding and complementary feeding as most of them were nursing mothers. They were also trained on Hygiene and Sanitation and simple and affordable means for combating malnutrition with use of locally affordable food materials. The secretary of the organization Mrs Agnes Olajumoke emphasized the need for the youths to stay away from use of drugs, prostitution and other social vices. The organization took the database of all participants with a view to set them up on their chosen by providing them vocational training skills and start up kits.
The community leader for settlement MalamKazeem thanked the organization immensely for taking the initiative to help the people of the area. HE appealed to corporate  ,Non Governmental, and Faith Based Organizations to support  the poor in the society. He stated that Government alone coold not do it all. He also appealed for the public to support  organisations such as Social Safety Net Foundation who has genuine programmes and projects for people..
